About Nooshin

Nooshin Studio - Artist while painting

Nooshin Shekari is a multidisciplinary artist based in Saskatoon, working across painting, sculptural pieces, wearable art, mixed media, and medical illustration. Her practice sits between observation and invention. A face is studied as both anatomy and expression, a surface becomes a place for storytelling, and each material is chosen for what it can carry, transform, or reveal. Shaped by a background in theatre, movement, and biomedical science, her work often moves between realism and imagination, historical visual languages and contemporary form, delicate detail and theatrical presence. Rather than being tied to one medium, Nooshin builds each piece around its own language, through portraiture, miniature-inspired linework, sculptural textures, symbolic imagery, and commissioned works made with a strong sense of character and atmosphere

The VISUAL ARTIST

Nooshin’s visual work is shaped by technical range, material curiosity, and a trained eye for image, surface, and form. Her experience as an art instructor at the university level strengthened her approach to composition, colour, anatomy, proportion, and visual problem solving. She also practices simultaneous ambidextrous drawing and painting, working with both hands at the same time. Her work moves freely across mediums, scales, and materials without being confined to a single category. Each piece develops through its own balance of technique, material, reference, and atmosphere. Across this range, her work keeps a clear sense of direction, with each piece shaped around its own potential and also in alignment with the character of the studio.

THE PERFORMER

Nooshin’s performance background spans acting, theatre production, performance in water, and choreography, with experience in award-winning productions presented at international festivals. On stage, she developed an understanding of presence, timing, movement, and character. Behind the stage, she worked with the visual language of performance through conceptual costume design, set design, scenographic thinking, and theatrical special effects makeup. These experiences gave her a practical sense of how a stage world is built around an idea, a story, and an intention.

THE SCIENTIFIC EYE

Nooshin’s work also extends into medical illustration, supported by her Master’s training in Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology. She serves as a medical illustrator for the University of Saskatchewan, creating anatomy-based visuals for educational and clinical learning. Her scientific background gives her a direct relationship with the body, not only as something to represent, but as something to understand, translate, and build through image, sculpture, and anatomical detail.
